Designing VMware Infrastructure Video Training Available

In case you hadn’t already heard, this past Tuesday, July 24, Train Signal officially released my Designing VMware Infrastructure video training course!

Designing VMware Infrastructure from Train Signal

If you’re interested, you can view a sample video from the course on YouTube.

This is my first video training course, and I’m really excited to see it officially released. I hope that the video training course is as helpful to users as my books (like Mastering VMware vSphere 5 or VMware vSphere Design, written with Forbes Guthrie and Maish Saidel-Keesing) have been. Having now done both books and video training, it’s interesting to me how very different the two media are, and how very different the content creation process is. It was a learning experience for me, and I’m looking forward to more video training courses in the future. If you have any specific things for which you’d like to see video training courses produced, let me know by speaking up in the comments below. Also, if you have the Designing VMware Infrastructure course, I’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions for improvement!

Big Congrats to you Scott! I know that you put a ton of work into this course and did your absolute best to ensure it was a very high quality product. Having reviewed the course myself before it launched, I can say that I learned a lot from this course and now look forward to taking my VCAP-DCD. I especially enjoyed the case study lesson and where you discussed aspects of your VCDX design. I’m sure that the course will be very popular and I look forward to more Scott Lowe video training in the future :)

    All the best,
    David

I remember some time ago commenting (one of your post) about the lack of materials focusing on how to properly design a virtualized environment based on VMware technology. Your recent book, VMware vSphere Design, and now this video based training material from Train Signal just filled in the gap. This is awesome, thanks for that!

David, thanks for the feedback! Your assistance during the process was invaluable, and I really appreciate it.

Didier, between VMware vSphere Design (the book) and Designing VMware Infrastructure (the video training course), I hope that I’ve helped fill a gap in the product knowledge out there. Here’s hoping these resources are useful to others!

I purchased this TrainSignal title on the first day!
I have not completed the video as yet. I must say I was first taken aback by the 6 hours length. Thought it may be too short to cover all the design topics.
I will let you know my thoughts when I complete all the videos.
Thanks for your effort in putting this together!

I Purchase this Train signal , I little bit disappointed , I expected more detail about the topics of the exam , but most of the part was very basic
no any point to dfesign the FCOE, CNS and ,10 GB network

the only point was good is Case study and VCDX

I really expected some subjects to help to get VCAP-DCD

Ash, I’m sorry that you are disappointed in the training course. As you well know, there are far too many technologies out there to be able to discuss every single technology and its potential impact on a vSphere design. A course such as this can’t serve as a replacement for training and experience in the specific technologies like FCoE, storage area networks (SANs), networking, and security; instead, the purpose of this course is to help you take that existing knowledge and mold it together for the purposes of creating a vSphere design. The course is modeled after the VCAP-DCD and does cover every topic that is on the exam blueprint.

If you aren’t already well-versed in the component technologies like storage, networking, operating systems, security, DC/BR, etc., that are prerequisites before attempting VCAP-DCD, I would suggest seeking out some other resources to help shore up your knowledge. Then, combined with this VCAP-DCD-focused course, you should be prepared for the certification exam.

    Good luck to you!

Thanks for your Advise , is it possible to ask you some question by email about some topics of this training ?

Ash, you are welcome to contact me (my address is here on my site), but please understand that I do have other projects and other responsibilities, so my responses to you might be delayed. If you’re looking for speedy/rapid responses, I’m afraid I can’t guarantee that—sorry!

I would also suggest that there are a great many resources out there available to individuals such as yourself. Those resources include the VMware Communities (an outstanding resource, IMHO), the vBrownBag group study program(s), the weekly VMware Communities podcast (search on Talkshoe.com), more blogs than you can possibly count (have a look at the vLaunchpad on vSphere-land.com), and some fantastic resources available on Twitter. If I were in your position, I would take advantage of as many different resources as possible.

    Good luck!
