Comments on: VMware ESX 3.5 Update 3 is Available

How to know from vmware -v command that , it is ESX server 3.5 Update 3 or ESX server 3.5 UPdate 1 etc.

# vmware -v
VMware ESX Server 3.5.0 build-84374

I have an ESX 3.5 test box that I use to test all the patches on and when I installed Update 3 it wouldn’t allow me to use any of the VMs or even import a Virtual Appliance into it. I did an upgrade first and when that didn’t work I went back in and performed an installation and that didn’t work either. It’s still dead in the water. The error I’m getting is:

Unable to access file. [vmtest]NewVMName/NewVMName.vmx

Anyone else had any problems?

I’m considering waiting a month or two. i would have thought VMware would have caught the problem with Update 2 prior to release….

Never trust an admin that doesn’t test prior to moving into production with a new release anyway……Even better is to wait until the revision has matured with no major issues.
