…are incredibly stupid. What in the world does watching Jerry Seinfeld help Bill Gates find a pair of shoes have to do with Windows? If Microsoft thinks that Jerry and Bill talking about churros and making Windows delicious is going to help improve Windows’ tarnished image, I’d say they need to fire the ad agency and try again.

Totally agree! I watched this ad several times, searching for some hidden/subliminal message. The message I got, was this was kinda creepy. Seinfeld touched on shower humor during the series, with Kramer preparing meals in the shower. This brought back the same ewwwww I felt then.
What breaking in leather shoes or being a member of a shoe store club has to do with revamping an image of a dying icon escapes me. Not once have I ever thought I’d like to take a bit out of my PC. Throw it, or things at it, yes. But, then I got a Mac, and now I just do things with it.

I thought it was kind of funny, Scott. Kind of a spoofy take on Napolean Dynamite and the Seinfeld show. Magnified dumbness. Eating Churros - Forgive my love of “sitting on the couch wearing a stained t-shirt” style humor, but that just killed me. With any luck, Harold and Kumar will join in on the fun.
Besides, Windows cannot be all *that* bad, they positively own the desktop market and the majority of he server market, and nothing has yet spontaneously cumbusted… yet.
Back to my Churro. I’ve got to loosen up these shoes!

Don’t get me wrong–I love churros! This ad just wasn’t for me, though. I’m sure it will strike a segment of the market, and that’s fine–different strokes for different folks, you might say.
As for Windows not being *that* bad….well, I’ll decline from responding on that one.

Considering that the odds of you saying they were good was approximately -69% this means absolutely nothing.

Bob,
Actually, if you’ve read this site for any significant length of time, you’ll see that I don’t Microsoft bash that much. Yes, some of their products have real problems, yet at the same time some of their products are quite good.
Not liking a product and not liking that product’s marketing are two different things.
Besides, there have been a couple of the “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” ads that I thought were stupid as well.

Scott,
I’m in 100 percent agreement with your assessment. I’ve watched it several times, and it gets more obtuse, not less, with each viewing. And Gates shaking his booty at the end is just…gross. Not funny. Not even in an obscure, Seinfeld-ian way. Just idiotic.

I’m guessing this ad is just an opening “tie-in” for more ads to come in the future…
Well, I’d certainly hope so anyway…

Well, I must say… I was slightly confused as well on first watching this thing. I was waiting for the “message” that I needed about Microsoft or Windows. I loved Seinfeld, watched every episode multiple times and quote the dang show when things come up in real life. But… huh? Oh yeah, the message. I didn’t get it personally. I found the humor, not the message.
I think I heard MS paid Jerry something like $10M or something to create this “humorous” ad campaign… true? If so, hopefully the rest of the advertisements tie back to this one and the message shines down on me where I sit and I have an “Ah ha” moment.
