I ended up on your site for the exact same reason... I couldn't find where the VMware Infrastructure Remote CLI had been installed, except for the perl crap that got installed...

More than disappointed I'm actually very unhappy.

I was similarly unimpressed by the RCLI. Have you checked out the VI PowerShell Toolkit yet? Read up on it at their blog (http://blogs.vmware.com/vipowershell/). There is a closed beta on now, open beta beginning sometime soon. I'm having a lot of fun using it. It beats perl any day, however I don't know if it supports vmotion stuff yet. VMware will continue to support Perl for the Linux crowd, but the Windows guys out there will be very pleased with what VMware is working on.

I wanted to make sure that gaining access to the command line was needed as well as access to non-VM targets that allow network or emergency/out of band access. Please excuse, in advance, my rather lengthy reply!

We provide a service daemon called emser. This daemon was written to run on console servers and host operating systems. An emser overview is included at the bottom of the post.

We also provide access to the GUEST OS via VNC, RDP, ssh and telnet.

[Note from Scott: I snipped the rest of Jim's _very_ lengthy post, as it was primarily marketing information about his organization's products.]

Jim,

I appreciate the offer, as I'm sure my readers do, but I generally prefer substantive discussion as opposed to blatant advertising.

Now, if your product will assist in the management of ESX 3i and performing Storage VMotion operations, then please speak up. Thanks!

Would there be interest in being able to get to the command line of any GUESST OS as well as non-Virutalized servers with the same tool?

If so, our product allows access to each GUEST OS on the VM as well as to non-Virtualized servers. The access is via VNC/RDP or via command line. Our product runs on "virtually" ( :-) ) all platforms and allows access to all platforms.

Please let me know if there is an interest as we are looking for folks to try our product.

Yeah, the RCLI appliance leaves even more to be desired, had you been able to get it running. As you put it, the relative importance of the RCLI means I'm not going to 3i anytime soon. Cool concept, needs implementation work.

For now I can tolerate using the svmotion.pl script, but that's about it.
