I am interested in anything you have on differences between iSCSI on 3.01 and 3.5. I have a Netapp Fas2020 presenting iSCSI disk to ESX 3.01 and it works fine. Can't see disks on esx 3.5. Thought it might be the firewall but doesn't seem to be. Have call open with Netapp, awaiting feedback, having sent on output from ESX host utilities 3.1. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
Thks.

Dave,

A preview of some of the changes you'll see in version 4 of the Solaris-AD instructions can be seen in this posting:

http://blog.scottlowe.org/2007/11/27/some-notes-on-solaris-ad-integration/

Nothing new or earth-shattering, just a clarification of the existing procedure(s).

Thanks for reading!

Hi Scott,

Very much looking forward to your next Solaris AD integration article. I am in the process of doing up a proposal for this in our business and am giving a choice between the open source solution and a commercial solution. Are there any specific changes that we can expect in the next version?

Thanks for your guides!

Ron,

I would guess you're referring to the problems we ran into with CentOS 5. I hadn't planned on tackling that one anytime soon, but I'll see what I can do. Thanks for letting me know!

Wade,

I can definitely confirm that jumbo frames are not supported for iSCSI or NFS; only for VM data networking.

I can also verify that the software iSCSI initiator is based on different code as well. I'm not clear yet on what new functionality is included; I've seen references to support for MCS (Multiple Connections per Session) and multipathing.

Thanks for the feedback!

The below are particularly interesting to me.

New iSCSI functionality in ESX Server 3.5 - from what I have read, jumbo frames are still not supported with the software initiator. Is load balancing possible yet? Is the initiator still based on the cisco Linux iscsi initiator, or was it rewritten?

Restricting access to ESX Server when using AD integration

A brief blurb on NetApp OSSV - I would be particulalry interested in the VMware integration of this product.

Thanks for the great articles!
