		<description>I was suggesting a shared LUN that does not contain vmdk files.  It would indeed be against best practices to have Templates, isos, or other files in the same LUN as vm files.

I always create a separate vmfs for media of any type including patches and updates.</description>

I interpreted the suggestion as to use a separate VMFS3 LUN, not a LUN on which you are storing VM files.  I would not want to store ESX updates on a LUN where I am also storing VM files, but a separate LUN (perhaps on 2nd tier storage) would work.</description>
